A firewall is a software or a hardware system designed to prevent unauthorized access to your network. Firewalls can have the form of hardware or software or a combination of both. Firewalls are frequently used to prevent unauthorized Internet users from accessing private networks connected to the Internet. A firewall works in a way that all messages entering or leaving the intranet pass through the firewall. The firewall examines each message and blocks those messages that do not meet the specified security criteria.
